The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company was originally established in Wawanesa, Manitoba to provide farmers with insurance in 1896. Wawanesa is a Canadian mutual company which is owned by its clients. Today, Wawanesa is among the Canadian insurance leaders.
Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company owns both of its subsidiary companies:
- Wawanesa Life
- Wawanesa General – which is based in California, United States of America.
The United States subsidiary, Wawanesa General, was established lawfully in California in late May of 1974. The first premium, however, wasn’t written until the next year in April of 1975. Wawanea Mutual Insurance Company’s U.S. branch is based in San Diego, California.
In the United States Wawanesa’s marketing, underwriting, claims processing, and policyholder services are all conducted from the San Diego office. Wawanesa Car Insurance is currently licensed to write policies for residents of California and Oregon.
